| CLUB ETHOS |
|
| Tudor Sailing Club aims to cater for all our members’ interests, offering a wide range of organised events and providing services to compliment our members needs. The membership demographic is evenly balanced between cruiser and dinghy sections, with many members enjoying both types of sailing. |
| We are essentially a 'self help club', reliant on our hard working members to volunteer their time to provide, maintain and serve the club. We ask all members to volunteer for 15 hours of duties per year, helping behind the bar, in the galley, maintaining our building and grounds, managing our racing program, or providing patrol boat cover out on the water. Those who are either unable to offer their time or choose not to volunteer are subject to a 'maintenance levy' of £17 an hour for the 15 hours; this equates to an additional £255 a year on top of their membership fees. This levy is to encourage members to help the club and any money raised via the levy is used to buy in external services and contractors. |
| The club is managed by an elected executive committee who are all club members, the committee consists of three flag officers (a commodore, vice-commodore and rear-commodore) who are supported by administrative committee positions (Secretaries, Treasurer etc.) and other representatives who head up role specific sub-committees (Bosun, Sailing, Maintenance, Social etc.). |

| DINGHY SECTION |
|
| The long shallow slipway allows launching at all states of the tide, making Tudor SC one of the most accessible clubs in Langstone Harbour. This key feature allows the club to offer a full and varied programme of events, including activities out in the Solent. |
| Our large compound provides secure dinghy storage, with in excess of 150 dinghies spaces. These are split into 'summer only' and 'all year round' spaces. As a new member, the club will offer you a 'summer only' space initially, with the opportunity to apply for an all year round space once your compound space is allocated. |
| The club offers a full calendar of dinghy racing, with organised events all year round. In the summer months there can be up to 4 or 5 races per week. The winter racing programme is thwarted by tides and poor light with events once a fortnight for those who like to brave the cold conditions. The racing programme includes both racing series and individual trophy races, each tailored towards a different theme, from general club handicap racing, pursuit racing, long distance racing, short course racing, through to various regattas, there is something to suit everyone’s tastes. |
| And for those of you who prefer a more relaxing sail, organised cruising days are featured throughout the year, allowing you to explore the Solent, Langstone and Chichester Harbour's accompanied by a patrol boat for peace of mind. The harbour is one of the quietest sheltered waters on the south coast and is a real haven for wildlife. There are also regular informal dinghy cruises throughout the summer months, giving you an opportunity to cruise in company and learn from other sailors. |
| The club has a very active Cadet Section, who meet every Wednesday evening during the summer months. Whilst the club are unable to offer formal qualifications, help and guidance are given to our young cadets by experienced sailing parents, who hold an number of RYA instructor qualifications. There is a cadet racing series which is run in conjunction with the Wednesday evening sessions and a junior regatta towards the end of the season. Whilst the club does not provide any boats, younger cadet members may borrow an Opi from the Sea Scouts and older cadets can often find a crewing spot in someone else’s boat. |
|
| CRUISER SECTION |
|
| The club manages 105 moorings on behalf of the 'Langstone Harbour Board' which are found to the north of the club along the Broom Channel. Moorings are managed and allocated by the bosuns committee and mooring holders are responsible for their own mooring gear. |
| The club has limited availability for winter layup, which is offered to only club mooring holders. Layup availability is prioritised based on the length of membership to the club and the size of your vessel. Every effort is made to bring everyone ashore for winter, but those who are at risk are notified well in advance to allow them to make alternative arrangements. |
| The club owns a tractor and hoist (rig) which facilitates launching and recovery of cruisers; this facility gives additional flexibility to cruiser owners, allowing boats to be lifted for essential repairs or to be scrubbed. |
| The club organises a variety of weekend cruises within the Solent which are supplemented by long distance cruises in spring and summer months including Cross Channel and the West Country passages. |
| The cruiser programme includes an active racing schedule, which is well supported. This includes a mixture of racing series and trophy races, both in harbour and in and around the Solent. |
|
| SOCIAL ACTIVITIES |
|
| The focus of the clubs social programme is Wednesday and Friday evenings, along with a Sunday lunch service. The bar is also opened by trained members on an 'ad-hoc' basis to compliment the racing and cruising activities of the club. The bar is manned by trained volunteers who help to keep the cost of the drinks to a very low level. Please note that smoking is not permitted within the club buildings. |
| Social Committee arrange other events throughout the year, such as the annual dinner dance and awards ceremony, guest speakers, quiz nights, BBQ's and other live entertainment. |
