About Juniors

During the summer, Tudor runs juniors sailing on Wednesday evenings for 'Cadet' members of the club and the children of family members. Currently we have 30 to 40 girls and boys in roughly equal numbers across the age range 8 to 18. We cater for all abilities from complete novices up to cadets who regularly win club races against the adults. We are not an RYA recognised training centre and so we aim to provide supervised recreational sailing rather than a structured tuition program. That said we do have some sailing instructors amongst the members and some tuition is provided. Indeed many of the cadets have gone on to become sailing instructors themselves and will coach the younger members.

We run a cadet race series on selected wednesday evenings. We encourage as many cadets as possible to race. All abilities" are encouraged. The races will be short and there will be an on-shore briefing each time to explain the procedure.

The club owns 10 Optimist dinghies, two RS Fevas and an RS Quba which are available for the cadets to use. Many of the cadets sail their own boats, mostly toppers and lasers with small rigs

Junior evenings are run by the parents of the cadets. Parents are required to stay on site at the club during cadet activities and to help with the activities in some way

Once per year we hold a Junior Regatta which is an open event attracting young sailors from the other nearby clubs to swell the ranks of our own cadets.

During the winter we have been holding monthly cadet social events.

Our operating guidelines require parents to stay at the club at all times during cadet section activities; please help us to work within these safety guidelines by ensuring that there is a responsible adult on site.

Volunteers Required

We depend on volunteers. We need all the parents to help out with something.

Patrol boat helm: If you are trained to helm a patrol boat PLEASE bring your kit each week in case we need you. We have many fewer trained helms this year than last. It would be a shame to have to limit numbers on the water due to lack of patrol boat cover.

Patrol boat crew: All patrol boats must have a helm and a crew, if at all possible please bring kit that would allow you to crew a patrol boat if needed. This requires no training or experience.

Tudor Base/Shore liaison:

Help rigging/launching: Please come prepared to enter the water knee depth to help launch and recover the cadets. With up to 25 dinghies to launch it is critical we have 3 people at the bottom of the slip.

Help with the galley: We aim to ensure food is available after cadets each week. We have a good pool of people to lay this on now, thanks to those that volunteered.
