About Kayaks at Tudor

The club actively supports the pursuits of Kayaking and Stand Up Paddle (SUP) Boarding. We have a large kayak section at Tudor SC with over 60 member-owned kayaks currently in the club. As the section has grown significantly the club felt that it was time there was a kayak captain to represent those members and plan events. TSC aim to offer a range of events to suit all abilities and provide friendly support for the novice paddler, and more challenging cruises and competitions for the more advanced paddler.

Canoeing and kayaking as sports date back to the Scottish explorer John MacGregor, who designed the Rob Roy canoe in 1845. It was named after his famous relative and based on Inuit sketches. He then formed the British Royal Canoe Club in 1866, which began competitive canoeing with their first regatta in 1873. MacGregor went on to found the American Canoe Association in 1890. Improving technologies in kayak and SUP design are making the pursuit cheaper and more accessible to all.

Over the past few decades, kayaks and SUPs have become a widely-used vessel for sport, recreational activities and for use in the exploration of nature and pursuit of adventure. There is nothing quite as good as kayaking through a beautiful, quiet landscape, completely inaccessible on foot, in your one (or two) person boat. It is great for the soul to be out and about in the harbour making no noise and being able to explore areas that are not easily reached by other watercraft.

Tudor Sailing Club currently have 4 club owned sit on top kayaks, two single seater and two double seaters. These can be booked via the club boat bookings page. Paddles, seats, buoyancy aids etc are kept in the blue box under the canopy. Please ensure that you follow any club guidance notes and leave the boats clean, mud free and secured. Please report any damage noticed and take care when using the wheels (carrying preferred when practical).

The Langstone Harbour Board has produced a leaflet for kayakers, suggesting trails that can be followed within the Harbour and sights which may be seen along the way. This leaflet also illustrates places where wildlife may be seen, and steps kayakers can take to ensure their actions do not cause harm to wildlife. It can be viewed on the LHB website along with some other info about paddling in the Harbour.
