The Langstone Harbour Race Weekend
Saturday 29th - Monday 31st May 2010

LHRW Background
The solent has long been regarded as a meca for sailors; our sun soaked beeches and gentle sea breezes provide the perfect forum for those of us who love to get on the water on a weekend. Langstone harbour is found between Portsea Island (Portsmouth) and Hayling Island to the eastern flanks of the Solent and is probably best known for its vast array of wildlife. The sheltered waters also offer an excellent platform to host dinghy racing events, a secret well known by the sailing clubs who border its shores.
The 'Langstone Harbour Race Weekend' is hosted by the three largest dinghy sailing clubs in the harbour; Locks, Tudor and Langstone Sailing Clubs welcome visiting sailors to come and compete in a series of races stretched across the May Bank Holiday Weekend. Last years event saw over 70 sailors take to the water, for three days of competitive racing.
LHRW Entry
Entries are restricted to monohull dinghies, although there are no specific restrictions on handicaps. There are normally 4 racing fleets divided into fast asymmetric, fast, medium and slow handicap categories. Each fleet will benefit from its own start, which will be run from a committee boat, out in the harbour; please allow plenty of time to get to the start area.
LHRW Socials
Each club hosts a social evening on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the weekend, where food and entertainment is provided. This gives sailors the perfect opportunity to unwind after the days sailing, with plenty of time for banter. Better still - food and entertainment are included in the event entry fee - great value for money.
Entry forms, NOR, and a program of events will be posted on this web site in the run up to the event, but for more information please email our events coordinatorinfo@langstonerace.co.uk
