Fun was had by all at the Friday night social at Tudor SC, where competitors, following the race briefing, enjoyed some great entertainment from the live band 'About Time'. |
Day one of the LHRW brought challenging conditions for competitors with wind speeds in excess of 25-30 knots. A hardy few made the start area and battled through the driving rain, poor visibility and gusty winds, with only 6 boats out of the 60 entrants finishing the course. Its always interesting for the race committee to start two boats who both crossed the line upside down! |
The poor weather did not dampen the spirits for the Saturday evening BBQ at Locks SC. Those who braved the adverse conditions, enjoyed sharing their stories of the days events - competitors compared the quality and quantity of their capsizes! |
Day two of the LHRW saw conditions improve, although the wind was still blowing hard with force 5/6 gusting 7 recorded in the local area. The bright sunshine fooled many of the competitors into a false sense of security, which was reflected again in the number of retirements. Those who did finish enjoyed some fantastic sailing - lets hope it drops just a little tomorrow so that we get a few more finishers! |
The third and final social night at Langstone SC was a great way to relax after the blowy conditions on the water. The sailing orientated quiz was really good fun - and the locals got the party swinging when they started dancing on the tables! |
Day three - what a difference a day makes! Winds dropped from F3/4 as boats launched to a F0 as the three fleets eventually started following postponement. Again only a handful of fast handicap boats finished, but for very different reasons from the first two days. |
The 2010 LHRW provided racing with extreme conditions, challenging the most experienced sailor; the race winners were very deserving of their prizes! |
