Up close and Personal with the new Rooster Grad.
After months of speculation the Graduate Class Members have adopted Phil Morrison's makeover of the Graduate. The three proposals put to the membership for consideration were that boats built from the new deck mould would be certified Graduate Dinghies (after measurement checks); that corrector weights could be increased from 7 kg to 10 Kg and that fitting of bilge rubbing strips to be made optional. All three were passed with a huge majority.
'Grad 3000' was a makeover by Phil Morrison in association with the Boatyard at Beer. Production is now starting in earnest with boat packages being put together by Rooster Sailing. Grad 3000 benefits from a more open cockpit, more room for the crew when sitting forward, a gnav to give the crew more room and an easy to use jib cleat and fairlead position. Anyone would think we have been listening to crews!
The design has transformed the Graduate into a really clean looking boat; the photos show some of the new design features of the boat, with a smaller rear tank which includes a stepped transom, a new flowing foredeck with its distinctive curved mast step, and narrow, shaped thwart which brings all those essential control lines easily to hand.
The first two Rooster Grads are currently touring the country appearing at Graduate Open Meetings. If you would like to test the new Rooster Grad, contact Steve at Rooster Sailing, or our class Chairman, Stewart Bottoms (chairman@graduatedinghy.com).
